Matt and Lo’s love story reminds me a lot of one of my favorite fairy tales, Cinderella. Imagine that you don’t know the story of Cinderella and you’re watching (or reading) it for the first time, when she ends up at the ball after the fairy godmother gives her the dress, shoes and chance of a lifetime, she meets the prince, they fall in love, and everything should be perfect right?! Well, not quite in her case.
Just like that, Matt and Lo met first in high school, and for a brief time dated. And just like Cinderella, when midnight hit and she went back to her regular life she probably didn’t expect for true love to come from that encounter with the Prince.
Similarly, Lo and Matt both had life happen in between their time as high school sweethearts, and neither one of them expecting to find love at a little girl’s birthday party. Yet that’s where they met for the second time. Fast forward to this year and they get engaged in a sweet and surprising way after sledding all day with friends and family on New Year’s Day. But life is a little complicated especially while planning a wedding during a pandemic. There were many things that happened before their big day that could have dampened their spirits. However, Lo and Matt made the best of it, they found new center pieces, live streamed their wedding to special family members and guests who weren’t able to attend, and handled everything with laughter and confidence. Knowing that at the end of the day, being married was going to be worth it.
Lo and I have known each other since high school so it was wonderful to get a chance to catch up a little with her on this amazing day and even though years have passed, there’s just something about knowing someone for so long that bonds you for life. Getting to see her and celebrate with them on this day was fantastic and inspiring, based on the last year. Seeing Matt look at Lo with admiration and love while she was laughing and joking with him was such a highlight for the day and Kyle and I had the best time getting to be a part of their amazing celebration.
One of the best parts of the whole day (in my opinion), was when the father daughter dance happened. Although those dances are always my favorites, this one was extra special. Halfway through the dance with Lo and her dad, Matt brought out Karissa, who is his new daughter, to dance with them and it was so incredibly sweet! And just like Cinderella and her Prince I know that Matt and Lo will live happily ever after!
